Thea woke me up at 8:25 pounding on my door. She was grinning from ear to ear over this Norwegian guy she hung out with all last night. She is so funny.
I took forever getting ready and went to breakfast at 10:15. Picture below of my usual cruise breakfast. I seem to get the same thing every time.
Unlike the free shuttle yesterday, the shuttle today cost €5 to take us to the center of Livorno. I had not done any research on this port and didn't have any plans. In the center of Livorno there is a tourist information office. The guy there gives me a city map and answers all my questions. Apparently you can take the #1 bus to the train station. The train to Pisa leaves every half hour and takes 60-70 minutes to get to Pisa.
I decided to just stay in Livorno and walk around the town. I am sure you are all disappointed that you won't get to see a picture of me pretending to hold up the leaning tower of Pisa. Well something to look forward to some other trip.
The first stop I made was at the post office. It was a very confusing experience. There was one nice guy that worked there who tried to help me by sending me to the correct lady. But she was not happy about his request to help me. I waited and waited. Finally she got me the stamps I needed and shoed me away with a huff. I asked the British girls behind me in line where to put the letters. They were much nicer.
Next, I used the restroom in a Subway (I have seen these all over both Spain and Italy). This bathroom was the best I've seen yet in Italy, no toilet paper but it was spotless and had a toilet seat.
The one at Pompeii didn't have toilet paper or a toilet seat.
The one in Rome was small but actually had toilet paper.
The comforts of home that we take for granted...
I walked around the town, passed the old fort and down by the waterfront.
Several fisherman had their catch out for sale.
This town is very quaint with Venetian like canals, interesting statues and ornate buildings.
I walked back the shuttle bus stop returned back to the ship at 1:30.
I ate lunch in O'Sheehan's Pub overlooking the atrium. The big screen was playing Trouble With The Curve, which I think is a cute movie. Lunch was mediocre. I had the chicken tenders appetizer and corned beef sandwich with fries. The food there is kind of bland.
I took a nice 2 hour nap this afternoon before dinner. Janet, German Lisa, Lynnette, Thea and her Norwegian(don't know how to spell his name) and several other solo travelers went to Taste for dinner. I had the tomato soup (good), the prime rib (a little tough) and the chicken kabobs with pineapple salsa (delicious). Dessert: Chocolate Decadence, a flour-less chocolate cake topped with fresh berry compote and vanilla ice cream. The best dessert yet!
A group of us had reserved the 10:00 Legends in Concert. The shows in board are free but require a reservation so that everyone can have the opportunity to see them once.
Stayed up way too late watching Captain America on the TV in my room. I had never previously seen it the whole way through.
