I slept for 14 hours. In a room by myself on the cruise I had trouble sleeping. But in a cheep hostel room shared with 4 other people, no problem. I slept through all-you-can-eat toast breakfast. So sad.
I took the public bus in Barcelona for the first time today. It was fairly easy. I got on bus 24 across the street from the hostel. Apparently there is some seriously strict Barcelona bus etiquette. Most of the people on this run were tourists and the locals were grumbling. At one point I turned to face forward and the lady near me turned me back sideways and told me in a string of Spanish to face sideways. Also I think you are supposed to move as far to the back of the bus as you can. One lady was grumbling squeezing by people while another local was telling her to calm herself. It was nice outside but hot on the bus and no one opened the windows...an interesting experience.
Like 20+ stops later we arrived at Parc Guell. The park sits on the slope of a hill north of the center of the city resulting in great panoramic views of La Sagrada Familia and the town below. Gaudi designed this park to be the center of a posh upscale housing development that never happened.
Two whimsical houses stand at the entrance The main entrance of the park opens on to a series of staircases and fountains. The most popular of the fountains is the dragon the symbol of the park and of Barcelona.
Lunch Weiswurst and French Fries (German and American food in Spain???)
