I spun the sculpture that looks like a Death Star for good luck (see picture in previous post) and headed out the gates of Trinity College. Right then a hop on / hop off bus pull up in front of me. I hop on.
In my opinion these omnipresent tourist traps are over priced and cliche but they have one redeeming quality. They let me be a lazy tourist. I can visit a city without learning the local transportation, without knowing where the sights are or even what they are. I can sit back relax and see what comes.
We drove by churches and cathedrals, statues, monuments and famous pubs. We passed the Guinness brewery. Next up: the Jamison Distillery. I know, my parents are so proud.
I bought a tour ticket and browsed the gift shop waiting for the tour to start. Mom and dad: here are pictures of Jamison souvenirs I didn't buy for you.
The tour began with a short film set in the time if John Jamison and what the factory looked like then. The tour takes you through a the steps of whiskey making in a museum like simulated way. I was disappointed to find out that all the real whiskey making takes place elsewhere in Ireland. It was a little to touristy but it ended with a "free" drink.
I hopped back on the bus and shortly off again to walk through the Temple Bar area. There is a bar here named Temple Bar. But the area was named first after some guy named Temple and Bar which refers to the cobblestone way.
I walked around and found a non-touristy looking pub for lunch. I had the Irish stew, the only thing on the menu. I love when places make it simple. The stew was good. There was a lot of tender beef, potatoes and carrots. It did need a lot of salt added to it. Personal preference.
In my continuing quest of finding awesome snack food all over the globe I tried some Cheese & Onion crisps/chips and 2 new kinds if soda. The chips were so not good that I threw them away. The sodas were yummy.
I got back on the airport bus no problem. Now I am sitting here typing a really long post because my flight is delayed again. Oh well I have time to kill.
