16.5km walked to day.
The ground was muddy in a lot of places because if the rain last night. The mud was not dirt but clay. It felt really cool, all sticky and mushy. I don't know what happened to the time today. Time moved fast while I walked slow. I guess it was because I was just goofing off today. I drew in the mud with my walking stick. I made lots of hearts all over the trail, anytime there was a nice clay patch. The rain had cooled things off a few degrees which made walking pleasant.
My feet are doing much better. My left foot is pain free at the moment. My right foot is healing great since I took the compeed off. Compeed is what they put on blisters here. It is a really comfortable patch that covers the sore spot. But because the blister hadn't dried out it was just making it larger till it squished out the edges of the compeed. I've been toughing it out and just walking with nothing on the blister. Changing socks at least once a day is very important. The right foot blister is almost all dried out and the bruise underneath it is healing.
Warning gross feet picture below.
I think everyone's feet hurt on the camino. It is the only place that makes 25 year old guys walk like 60 year olds. (Surprisingly the 60 year olds are doing better than the young people in my opinion.) At the albergues at the end of the day when we all stand up it is with groans and creaks. It is funny to stiff legged, slow old lady walk being done by rguys who look like star athletes. I have dubbed this walk the Camino Shuffle.
Rain clouds were gathering and rumbling as I walked into Najera. The camino traverses the boring outskirts of town before leading to one of the most charming old towns I have seen in the last week.
I stayed at the municipal albergue here which is another donation only place. It has one large room with 90 beds, bunk bed style, a kitchen, dining room, bathrooms and laundry room.
Hand washing laundry. Blah!
I guess everyone moved ahead of me again because I don't recognize anyone at this albergue except a few people who passed me on the trail today. Oh well.
I made chicken to go with tonight's pasta in a packet. And I picked up a chocolate pudding cup for dessert. A yummy dinner for €3.50.
