Wednesday, July 17: Santo Domingo de la Calzada to Belorado

Walked 22.5 km today!

I walked with Natasha and Katerina most of the day. Katerina went to the doctor who sees pilgrims in the evenings (I think she paid €5) and he said she has a broken toe. But she is continuing on. What a trooper!

We walked through so many tiny villages: Granon, Redecilla del Camino, Viloria de Rioja, Villamayor del Rio and finally stopped just outside of Belorado.

We took a breaks in about every other town. I fed a cat some of my breakfast and and popped our heads in to the church in Grañon. Later we enjoyed some lovely oranges that I had bought the day before.

The scenery has just been stunning. The surrounding hills are covered in wheat fields.

We decided to stay at Albergue A->Santiago mostly because it was €5 and it had a pool and wifi! As I was walking up the drive who do I see? Roisin and Maria, sitting on the patio having an afternoon snack. We hugged and chatted. It was lovely to see them again. The departed and planned to continue on a few more towns.

I had to deal with the credit card people via Skype. Someone in Brooklyn NY used my credit card number to buy $40 worth of Dominos.  Not me! They know I am in Spain so they cleared the charge and issued me a new card. Which will be arriving in Massachusetts any day now. Does me a lot of good???

The pool was cold so I just soaked my legs while I read a book.

I walked with Katrina and Natasha all day and no one mentioned one very important fact. It's Katerina's Birthday. Someone picked up a cake and we toasted with champagne.

Happy 24th Birthday Katerina!
